Cheers All Around: Kindergarten, Longs Peak and Neonatal

20 Sep

A few well-earned bartblog kudos

Montrose Homecoming The Kindergarten class (Hope is in the pink hoodie, bottom left) made dinosaurs to chomp chomp chomp the Emery-Ethan Seahawks during last Friday’s homecoming parade. Too bad the Irish didn’t do any chomping later that night…They are off to a terrific 0-3 start.

Thanks to Mrs. Smith for the picture. We’ve added a link to Mrs. Smith’s Kindergarten homepage here on bartblog–where you can see all kinds of cool and amazing stuff like the fact that Hope’s job this week is “Board Eraser.” I’ve always thought quite fondly of Board Erasers. Never had a chance to try my hand at the job; more of a Line Leader and Napper in my Kindergarten days with Mrs. Rand. Wish I could nap like that nowadays. My form was p-h-a-t.

So Kudos to Hope for a nice float, clean chalk boards and a career-long shutout of checkmarks by her name on the board. Well-behaved just like her Daddy.

Little Sis got a new job. Sarah (“Sardine”, as I so affectionately call her–yes, like the little fish) is the proud owner of a brand new title at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls. She’s been hoping a while to get into the McKennan Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She’ll be stepping up her game to full time in October with this new gig. Kudos to Sardine on the new gig.

Paul on top of Longs Peak Lastly, my brother Paul and a couple friends decided on a whim they needed to climb a mountain for his birthday. Not just any mountain, but Longs Peak–a quite large peak as far as peaks go in Colorado (the tallest one in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park). Seeing how they live near said mountain and stare at it all day, Paul, his friend Shaun and our cousin Josh Atherton set out on Paul’s very first mountain hike. Ever. Way to start small, guys. Well, obviously by the picture, they made it. They even made it back down again. It’s 17 miles and took 12 hours (they left Paul’s kitchen at 1:45 am). So Kudos to Paul, Josh and Shaun for 14255 feet of exhilerating, exhausting idiocy. (Actually, I’d love to be an idiot like that sometime). In case you’d like to try it, here is a site that can help, and here’s another.

All kidding aside, nice hike guys–really. Thanks to Josh and his $4 camera for the pics and links. BTW, you can see more pics of “The 14er Hike” and some other lovely stuff on our Flickr site. Our camera has been out of commission for a few weeks, so we’ve been really lite on new stuff. Hopefully my cheap ass will get it fixed soon.

I thoroughly enjoy catching up on this website weekly to let us Coloradoans know what is going on back in SD. A side comment about the hikers is that they complained about aches and pains for the next week (also made us wives worship them because they climbed a mountain!). I have never given so many back, thigh, hip, shoulder, and feet massages in my life…And those were just for Paul! I feel bad for Anne and Tracy as well!
