The LR6 is a dimmable LED lighting retrofit product for residential or commercial use. The LR6 installs in most incandescent 6″ recessed cans and provides greater light output than a 65-watt incandescent bulb with equivalent or better light quality, while consuming only 12 watts of power and without using toxic mercury. The LR6 was designed to last for 50,000 hours (up to 25 years of typical residential use) while maintaining at least 70% of its initial light output. It is easy for everyday consumers to install as it does not require an electrician.
I’m totally sold. I’ve had a really tough time finding good dimmable CFL’s for the 11 can lights in our kitchen/dining/living room areas. I’ve tried a couple different ones that are supposedly dimmable, but pretty much stink. And 25 years–way cool…Until I saw the price tag. I won’t be dropping a hundred bucks on one light bulb anytime soon.
EnvironmentalLights.com says this bulb will save me about $680 over it’s lifetime, and will send about 4,658 fewer pounds of carbon into the air over that 25 years than a regular incandescent bulb would. That’s a big deal, I guess. Still–even this tree hugger will wait until the price goes down on this cool new technology.
