Our next door neighbor was activated for duty in Kuwait at a ceremony this weekend. The girls drew and colored some pictures for him and ran them down the culdesac this evening (his National Guard unit ships out Monday or Tuesday). They also brought him some tootsie pops–a thanks for the hundreds of suckers he’s given them over the years when they’re out riding bikes or playing in the driveway. He doesn’t even have to say anything–just stands on his front porch and holds three blow pops in the air. They come running.
Hope asked me why Dave has to leave for so long (they’ll be gone a whole year). I told her he’s a soldier and will be going to fight in a war someplace far away, so we can be safe here. So, on the back of her drawing of our house and theirs, with a street connecting them, Hope wrote Dave a note.
“Dear Dave, Thank you for all the suckers. Good luck in your fight. Beat them up. Love Hope.”
Thanks for defending us Dave. Blessings, and come home safe.
