Gobble. Gobble.

We’re so thankful today. For life, love, and you.

And, take a few minutes to watch this video. Every moment, every breath, is a miracle. Be grateful.

Alone Together

I was busy busy being together with people all day. Going here and rushing there, pushing through my list-o-matic in my pocket.

Then I was interrupted by Tanya Davis. Actually, by my British-turned-Canadian friend Tim, who told me to “just take the four minutes” to watch Tanya teach us how to be alone.

Being alone is my favorite way to be together; my autobahn to oneness with all of this thing called life. So stop for a bit right now and watch. So we can be alone, together.

Now That’s Bull (I-90 Landmark Makes Time’s Top 50 List)

Sphinx of the Plains

No shiitake.

Time Magazine has listed Montrose, SD’s very own Porter Sculpture Park as one of the Top 50 Roadside Attractions in America.

Nobody misses that 60 foot Bull.

The big bull is actually called Sphinx of the Plains, and is guarded by four fierce ram-headed dudes. Inside, if you get to know sculptor Wayne Porter a bit, he’ll let you climb up the Bull’s head and swing in the homemade iron porch swing 20 or so feet up. Not a scary height, til you see the spikes and other iron weapons decorating the walls of the climb.

At the end of last summer, I took my two interns, Karin and Jamie, to Porter Sculpture Park for a season-closing field trip. We spent half a morning exploring with Wayne. I brought my camera. Nature brought some wind.

Ninja Gardening in the Rough Part of the City

Some friends of mine enjoyed breaking the law with squash in downtown Sioux Falls a while back. But turns out it wasn’t squash at all.

Even if you don’t dream of the unbridled freedom breathed each day in the life of a full fledged guerilla gardener (like I do), you must watch the wisdom in this short video. Then you can see what happens when cucumbers masquerade as summer squash, in this 12seconds video from today.

Dragonflies on a Flooded Dirt Road

A fortunate wrong turn on my way home from Madison last week brought me to this. I didn’t try crossing it, but did sit a while on this thin strip of gravel that seemed like a firm raft in the center of two sloughs becoming one.

Really enjoyed the thousands of busy soul-blue dragonflies. Always been fascinated by them, and can watch them for long stretches. They just seem to amaze me by defying gravity. Like they’re from the Cosmos Mystery Area.

It reminded me of a verse I wrote a couple years ago while sitting in a field watching a few of those magic little guys with wonder.

Here’s a short video I shot on the flooded dirt road. I found it a nice little meditation. Plug in some earbuds, turn the sound up, and watch the video as big as you can with good resolution. Put everything out of your mind, let it rest. Relax your whole body, then feel all of your body with your mind… Give it a go. Become the peace in the soft summer breeze. It’ll only take half a minute.
