Christmas Hugs from Princess

Last week the whole Cleveland tribe surprised Grandpa Denny with a Thanksgiving trip to Branson, Missouri for his 60th birthday. We rented a house in the Ozarks, met the newest nephew (Cale), cooked lots of turkey, survived all-night shopping insanity, and hit a neat theme park in the wooded mountains called Silver Dollar City. An awesome adventure, even though we had kiddos in the van who thought it had been a long trip already by the time we drove past the Tea, SD exit on the way down (9 to 11 hours one way, depending on car sickness level).

At the famed Christmas Light Parade (held twice each night during the holiday season), Zoey made it big. The friendly Cinderella knock-off from the parade was really the main reason she showed up. When the parade princess reached down and gave Zoey a hug, it was like winning the Powerball.

Later, fully against Mommy’s wishes, Hope and I strapped into the Powder Keg–a screaming roller coaster through the woods in the dark. Scariest and most fun ride I’ve ever been on. Hope went for a second ride (this time with Aunt Jenna).

Oodles of Pics to Get Your Fix

Time for a family catch up in photos.

Haven’t been blogging much because we’ve gained an addiction to canning. Hold on tight to any fruits and veggies you want to keep if I’m around these days.

We’ve been celebrating Grandpa and Grandma Wicks’ 60th Wedding Anniversary, starting school (Zoey is a Kindergartner!), taking long walks around our village, and parading around town for homecoming (our three girls represented the dinosaur age, the dirty thirties and the hair band eighties)… Click ’em to make them bigger.

We’re also sneaking in as many September evenings as we can at the park at the lake before it’s too cold… Read the rest of this entry »

All the World’s a Parade

Montrose homecoming parade this past Friday. A sexy banner holder for the Daycare, first graders lovin’ it, third graders just doin’ it and Uncle Ray squashin’ it. Not pictured: one awesome marching band, lots of tractors and some horse manure. The Fighting Cougars won a nail biter 6-0.

Zoey was proudly sporting a new tshirt.

Mayo and Pumpkins

Sounds like a really interesting sandwich. Actually, it’s about the Mayo Clinic and some pumpkin sellers. Plus some bonus coverage of Montrose Homecoming…

We went to Rochester, MN this past week to see the Vascular surgeon we’ve seen once before. Hope has an hemangioma (a malformation of veins) that we’ve been watching closely since she was born. We’ll be heading back to Mayo right after Christmas for surgery, and then a couple more times later in 2009.

Thanks to the Wickses for putting us up (and putting up with us) in Zumbrota. Michael was a great entertainer for the girls! They built a Lego zoo, and torchured the cat (I think the cat liked most of it).

Grandpa Denny grew a bunch of nice pumpkins this year, and gave them all to the grandkids. Hope, Mesa, Zoey, Riley and Ty hosted a pumkpin stand Saturday on Main Street. They sold 41 pumpkins–thanks to the girls running down the street to harass nearly everybody (with coaching fro Uncle Nick).

It was Homecoming this week in Montrose, and this year was a big deal for our family. Jenna was up for coronation (she looked beautiful, but didn’t get the crown) and cousin Craig Healy was named King. Kayla was a first grade attendant, and Grandpa Denny was chosen Booster of the Year by the senior class. Denny also starred in a hilarious skit at coronation–I have video and will try to figure out how to get it online soon! All three of our girls were in the parade–Hope and Mesa each with thier class, and Zoey was Ty’s sidekick in the Jeep. As always, more pictures on Flickr.
